Coals to Newcastle

October 4th, 2001

Following an invitation to speak at the XML-Edge conference held in Santa Clara in the heart of Silicon Valley in California, BCP technical director, Brian Preece, gave an address on our work on XML and messaging. This included a demonstration that showed sales data being relayed from a Point of Sale system through a Back Office system to a Head Office and product and price updates being passed back the other way. The messages were relayed via the Internet through our AIMS hub in Stockport and back again to California within a fraction of a second. The demonstration included the “store owner’s” mobile phone receiving a tell-tale text message within less than a minute of the “checkout operator” selling a £3.99 bottle of wine for 10 pence!
