Recently Tesco and Unilever had a disagreement over the latter’s demand for a 10 per cent increase in the wholesale prices of its entire product range. Unilever had wanted to raise its prices to compensate for the steep drop in the value of the pound. (more…)
Latest market figures from Nielsen show that supermarket sales were at their best for three years in the four weeks to August 13. The 0.9% uplift due to hot weather and the Rio Olympics combined is the biggest increase since March 2015, and noted that the figures would have been even better if it were not for the grocery price war. Items such as mineral water, sparkling wine and fresh burgers contributed towards the increase.
Wearable technology in retail
Bank of America subsidiary MBNA has produced research into what retailers should be doing to prepare for a ‘wearable payments explosion’. 72% of consumers believe wearables are the future of in-store shopping, according to a survey from Vista Retail Support . Android and Fitbit are soon to be introducing payments to their fitness bands. Wearables that make contactless payments are set to be big in the next few years. (more…)
We are just recovering from an incredible week at IMHX which took place at the NEC Birmingham from 13th -16th September 2016. There were around 400 exhibitors displaying the latest cutting edge technologies and industry solutions across five halls at the Midlands-based arena – including us! Google has created a store experience at a location in London called the Retail Agility Challenge – an initiative designed to promote its technology to retailers. A mock store experience was used to showcase its App for Work technology, which is used by AllSaints and Ocado. It does not process any transactions but demonstrates scenarios where retail employees could use Google’s technology to overcome day-to-day operational challenges. (more…)
