BCP National 3 Peaks 24 Hour Challenge for Cancer Research

Tony Beales and Tim Williams have formed two teams to attempt a BCP organised National 3 Peaks 24 Hour Challenge on the 28/29th June in order to raise money for ‘Christie’s against Cancer’.

The challenge is to climb all three of the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The mountains involved are Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. Their route involves 9,700 feet of punishing ascent and descent, 22 miles walking and 470 miles of driving, plus of course, the drive to the start and home from the finish, making a roundtrip of about 1,000 miles.

Tony has somehow persuaded his entire family to take on the challenge and his family team consists of Mum, Dad and 4 sons, with an age span of 40 years between youngest and oldest.

Tim has rounded up a couple of friends for his team, and the two teams will be battling it out head to head on the mountains for the fastest time. (Road racing is strictly forbidden, and victory will be given to the team that is fastest on the mountains!).

The two walking teams are well supported by BCP staff, with drivers Martin Tanner, Geoff Hinde and Robert Towersey. Martin is also tackling one of the mountains with his son Carl.

Tony has posted more information on the challenge, the mountains and their route at

The aim is to raise £2,500 for Christie’s against Cancer, the charity which supports the work of the Christie Hospital in Manchester, the largest single-site cancer research and treatment centre in Europe. The hospital needs funds for scientists and clinicians to take forward their work on vital research, on new treatment approaches, and to buy essential equipment.

Please consider sponsoring the BCP challenge. You can donate online by logging on to the sponsorship webpage
http://www.justgiving.com/3peaks
. Donations on this website go directly to Christie’s against Cancer. Where supporters are UK taxpayers, the charity will also automatically receive a 28% tax reclaim bonus. Company donations may also be made online, but are not eligible for the Gift Aid tax bonus, as company donations are already tax efficient.

You can of course also send donations to BCP at the address on the “Contact BCP” page. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Christie’s against Cancer’.

Thank you to our supporters.
