Google has created a store experience at a location in London called the Retail Agility Challenge – an initiative designed to promote its technology to retailers. A mock store experience was used to showcase its App for Work technology, which is used by AllSaints and Ocado. It does not process any transactions but demonstrates scenarios where retail employees could use Google’s technology to overcome day-to-day operational challenges. (more…)

Options such as deliver to home and return-to-store; order online and pickup in-store; and even providing anytime, anywhere access to inventory availability all are on the increase.
A new report suggests retailers could cut food waster, improve animal welfare and boost profits by harnessing the power of big data. The report warned that the world needs to adopt a food system to feed future populations, with technology and data set to play an important role in boosting crop yields and livestock productivity.
A pilot scheme is to be launched in London allowing delivery robots to deliver top up groceries. Starship technologies have entered a partnership scheme with the local authority in Greenwich to start using the robots. Metro formats of grocery stores have come to dominate high streets as shoppers rapidly shift their habits, seeking more ‘food-for-now’ options in smaller baskets. Figures from industry body IGD suggest that the convenience market was worth £37.7bn in the year to April 2015 – and sales are predicted to climb to £44.1bn by April 2020. (more…)
